Not many of us would have predicted, a couple of years ago, that 2022 would be a year when the market would be awash with four and six-wheel coaches from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. And yet, with hindsight, it’s something that modellers of the ‘OO’ steam era have been lacking for decades, with kits being the only realistic option before now.
Hattons announced its Genesis range of coaching stock way back in 2019, with an aim of producing a generic, yet comprehensive selection of coaches that were ‘informed by prototypes’, rather than being based on actual vehicles. That was an innovative – and sensible – move, given the idiosyncratic nature of rolling stock in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
