HOW TO CONSTRUCT A BUILDING UNDER REPAIR
Peter Marriott tests a new kit by Auhagen to see if European buildings have any place on UK layouts.
Auhagen is not a well-known name in UK modelling circles, but that may be a mistake. I recently came across some of its new building kits which I believe would suit the UK scene and add variety in any town, rather than the usual card or resin buildings with which we are very familiar.
The kit I have to hand is part of a European street series of buildings, and while some of the buildings would not pass muster on a UK layout, these two new buildings do just that. One is a three-storey shoe shop with curved windows and a grey roof, with the other four‐storey building modelled in the process of being renovated, featuring blacked‐out windows with painted white crosses for safety.
On the top storey the tiles have been removed exposing the trusses. The kit also includes several construction accessories, including a wood pile, brackets, windows, tools and a gravel chute made of thick timber planks. There is also a worker’s caravan showing that this is a long-term project.
