N GAUGE
The pioneering Class 59, which revolutionised diesel traction in the UK, is to be the subject of Revolution Trains’ next ‘N’ gauge locomotive model.
The first example entered service with Foster Yeoman (FY) in 1986, hauling heavy stone trains from the Mendip quarries. Frustrated with the unreliability of BR’s existing fleet of locomotives, FY looked to the USA for a solution. General Motors’ Electro-Motive Diesel plant at La Grange, Illinois, turned out the first four Class 59/0s in a striking silver and blue livery. Proving an immediate success, the new locomotives offered exceptional levels of reliability and haulage capacity, leading to a fifth example being ordered.
