KNOW YOUR… LIVERIES
PART 27: BR Class 142-144 ‘Pacers’
Paul Chancellor examines the colour schemes carried by the divisive DMUs during the British Rail era.
With the largest fleet and wider geographical spread, the Class 142 gained a larger selection of liveries than its Class 143 and 144 cousins. One of the most distinctive was the orange and brown Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (PTE) livery, as seen on 142008 at Healey in 1986, working a Rochdale Manchester Piccadilly service. These units could be seen operating across the North West, way outside GMPTE territory.
