Hotel guests evacuated after smoker triggers alarm

MORE than 100 guests had to be evacuated from Oban’s Regent Hotel after a cigarette set off the fire alarm.

The hotel’s new £30,000 stateof- the-art alarm system tracked the not-too-secret smoker’s room number and details have been passed to the police. It happened just after 5am on Tuesday while many of the guests were still asleep. A hotel spokesman said there was no fire and the alarm identified the cause as cigarette smoke.
