PLANS are afoot to discourage drivers overtaking on the A816 through Kilmelford, writes Sandy Neil.
Kilninver and Kilmelford Community Council heard last week that Argyll and Bute Council had monitored 1,400 vehicles travelling on the long, straight stretch through the village – a 30mph zone – over a 24-hour period, and recorded an average speed of 31.8mph, according with Police Scotland‘s measurements.
The speed was ‘relatively low’, argued Jim Smith of Argyll and Bute Council’s roads and amenity services, and furthermore ‘shows the 30mph speed limit is by and large being respected’.
