Highlands climb to sixth in destination rankings

WITH the official start of summer a week away, coastal resorts such as Oban and Fort William are gearing up for a busy period as 55 per cent of British adults will be holidaying at home over the next few months.

Holidaymakers spend an average £599.80 on their annual break – giving the UK economy a boost of £17 billion. Topping the UK holiday location is Cornwall with Devon, the Lake District, London and north Wales making the top five, with the Scottish Highlands in sixth place.
