Last weekend saw the start of the annual Winter Festival and what a fantastic weekend it was. The town was buzzing, particularly on Saturday with the various markets and for the highlight of the day – the Reindeer Parade.
There was a bit of talk round Oban about the size of the Christmas tree in Argyll Square, but given the difficult week the council had had due to the devastating fire at Millpark, hats off to all the people who worked to get the tree up and decorated in time.
But during all the festivities and talk of Christmas, the one story that has stood out this week, the gesture that seems to have embodied what this time of year is really all about, is the article about Oban mum Tracy Gilmour, who put up her Christmas decorations early this year in support of a young lad and his family from England. Kieran Maxwell, 18, has terminal cancer and people in his village have put up their lights and decorations early, hoping to make this a special time for him and his family.
