Let’s have ‘keep Oban beautiful’ campaign

I was interested to read David McCann’s letter (The Oban Times, October 6) concerning the lack of a view at the viewpoint on Pulpit Hill.

I would be the last person to advocate the cutting down of trees, but it would be foolish to pretend that there are not occasions or locations where some careful tree removal might be advantageous.

One of the two seated viewpoints on Jacob’s Ladder has a lovely view down over the bay and the Railway Pier, but the other looks into a solid bank of trees.

I’m certainly against the random felling or chopping of trees which has been and is going on all over Oban, often to allow individual residents a better view or to allow more sunshine to reach their gardens, though at the expense of many others who might enjoy the wooded greenery of the town.
