THIS summer RSPB Scotland is offering half-priced entry at three of its reserves: Loch Leven in Perth and Kinross, Loch Garten near Aviemore, and Lochwinnoch just outside Glasgow.
Children and families can set out on mini-beast safaris, dip into rock-pooling sessions and construct cafes for hedgehogs.
Jasper Hamlet, a youth and families officer for RSPB Scotland, said: ‘Connecting to nature should be a key part of any child’s upbringing, experiencing for themselves what a worm feels like or learning how a plant grows.
