Business class Wi-Fi
Thanks so much for the Upgrade to Business Class Wi-Fi article (see issue 364, p40). In 2024 I upgraded my own home/office network to a TP-Link business mesh system and don’t regret it. There are two things to add to the article, though. First, many of the subscription features available on the Zyxel system Darien chose are included in the software of other routers, including my own, which is only about £20 or so more expensive. Second and most importantly, while guest networks allow you to isolate IoT, plus kids’ and visitors’ devices, to boost security, only a professional router will allow you to do the same with Ethernet, which is becoming more popular for devices including smart TVs used for streaming.

The only catch is that you need to be willing to delve into quite advanced settings, and to live with the possibility of temporarily stuffing up your home network while you’re exploring what you can do – which I doubt my family will appreciate!”
