THE EOS R5 C is a video-first version of the standard EOS R5. It boasts internal full-frame 8K 12-bit recording up to 60p, has Dual Base ISO, and incorporates an integrated cooling fan – which means it has “no limitations on shooting.” Though similar to the standard EOS R5 mirrorless, it’s specifically a Cinema EOS product, meaning it has been designed as a cinema camera that also enables you to shoot stills. As such, the EOS R5 C operates in two modes. Boot it up in stills mode and it behaves almost identically to the R5, albeit without the same in-body image stabilization, and it possesses a slightly modified version of the R5’s Digic X processor. Boot the camera up in video mode and the familiar EOS menus are replaced by Cinema EOS menus and you open up new video features like a 12-bit Cinema Raw Light format. There’s also the option to capture 4K 120p footage in DCI / UHD in 4:2:2 10-bit (Long GOP and Intra) – with audio recording, where the sound can be captured as a separate audio file.
