THE V WORD
Nobody’s perfect, even at Christmas
For many the Christmas month is the busiest, especially for the cook. It can feel as though at Christmas you must be the perfect host, and it has taken me years to realise that I should stop trying to be that perfect host.
This became apparent when a regular Christmas guest invited someone who I can only describe as the biggest sloth I had ever met. He spent the entire time being waited on hand and foot by all and sundry. Just because he looked like Brad Pitt didn’t mean he could get away with his charm in my house.
I realised that at Christmas (which is meant to be a holiday!) that I never got a minute to rest and actually enjoy Christmas myself. I’m sure many of you feel the same way, so learn from my mistakes and try easing your load and getting Santa’s little helpers to work too, rather than letting them lounge around the fire with a Sherry all day whilst you slave over a hot stove. People love to help if you ask, so involve everyone.
