How to… Safely tow a caravan
■ First, make sure car and van are well matched. Ideally, the loaded caravan should weigh no more than 85% of the towing vehicle’s kerbweight, and it should never exceed the car’s legal towing limit. Aim for a noseweight (download on the towball) of 5-7% of the van’s loaded weight, so long as this doesn’t exceed the maximum allowed for the towball or the caravan hitch.
