A SUNDAY IN SEPTEMBER
City slickers: Abel Ganz finally play London.
Ahealthy collection of the prog faithful are gathered for one of the first live rock events at The Bedford in 18 months as Tom Slatter opens with the apt Some Of The Creatures Have Broken The Locks On The Door To Lab 558. Armed with an acoustic guitar, Slatter includes fan favourites (Wizards Of This Town), a “pop song” cover (Crimson’s Three Of A Perfect Pair), and brand-new Time Stands Still, a minor epic that suggests a shift from his signature dark, absurdist surrealism, and bodes well for the next album. Closing the set with memories of uber-fan Andy Hall and lovely, powerfully performed Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said, it’s an excellent beginning.
