When Bill Nelson was working on 2023’s All The Fun Of The Fair album, he also recorded these 15 tracks, which form a nostalgic journey back to his childhood when he would read his mother’s illustrated books from the 1920s, such as The Golden Wonder Book For Children. It’s unabashedly nostalgic – the cover shows a boy gazing up at the night sky – but it works so well precisely because it’s not the sort of winsome musical watercolour all that might suggest.
