Lost Themes IV: Noir SACRED BONES
Film legend drapes dreamed-up scenes with a touch of evil.
Nine years after John Carpenter’s first Lost Themes album gave the great director another lease of life as a musician, the fourth in the series arrives. Working with his son and godson, he goes more route one here, with heavy guitar riffs often pushing ahead of rhythmic synths. That seems counter-intuitive – the album’s theme of music for imaginary noir films (or invented scenes spinning off from actual noir landmarks) calls for something more suggestive and brooding. Yet the ploy hits as intended.
