Former Nightwish singer revisits her second solo album.
Originally released in 2010, What Lies Beneath was an important album for Tarja Turunen. Having helped establish the whole concept of symphonic metal with Nightwish, the singer was dismissed in 2005 – a move some fans have still not managed to get over. Following a throwaway Christmas-themed collection, her first solo album proper, My Winter Storm, was a largely disappointing set with a heavy reliance on outside writers. The follow-up was far more focused and the singer had input on the writing throughout. In many respects it was the real start of Tarja’s solo career and tracks like Dark Star and Falling Awake remain firm fan favourites.
