AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR
Soaring seventh long player from the Northern Irish instrumental art-rockers.
Megafauna PELAGIC
And So I Watch You From Afar have come a long way since they formed in Belfast almost 20 years ago. Their self-titled debut, released via independent Derry label Smalltown America in 2009, proved to be the first baby steps on the way to becoming the big beast that they are today. What that early release has in common with Megafauna, their seventh album, is the intrinsic understanding of the futility of language in conveying emotion. And so while they’re routinely labelled post-rock, it’s an oversimplification that does them a disservice; on songs like the progressively expansive Gallery Of Honour and Me And Dunbar, ASIWYFA have developed their own language where they dance between dexterity and nuance, transcending genre and leaving many of the bands they’re compared to in their wake.
