London’s Emily Francis Trio sees the group moving further away from the piano-led jazz they first set their stall out with, and into the world of electronicbased fusion. There are also strong cinematic and prog undertones to the music here, creating a vibe that’s somehow both modernist and retro futuristic. And while there’s no doubting her virtuosity, Francis seems more interested in producing atmospheres than showing off her chops.
