Inventive second album from eclectic trio.
It’s been 10 years since longtime King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto, guitarist David Kollar and trumpeter Paolo Raineri released Bloom, their first album as Komara. Like its predecessor, this is a highly charged vortex of glitchy samples, ambiguous tonalities and off-kilter rock-outs. The results can be disorienting and challenging, but that’s likely the point in this half-lit, Lynchian world, wherein the gnawing paranoia of occluded spoken-word narratives seeps through the record’s very fabric. Some of these pieces are sketchy in nature, brief daubs of abstract, playful forms, while others border on wisps of amorphous sound design.
