The late, great John Peel once famously said that The Fall were “always different, always the same”, and were he alive today he might surmise that Kraftwerk are “always the same, always infinitesimally different”. That appears to have been the modus operandi since Ralf Hütter took receipt of a Synclavier in the mid-1980s, digitising the band’s back catalogue and spending the next 40 years tweaking a formula as the definitive line-up gradually ebbed away. Vorsprung durch Technik as they say in Deutschland, though what’s German for incremental?
