DARRYL WAY
DARRYL WAY
Violin Fantasia SPIRIT OF UNICORN MUSIC
Delightful neo-classical work from ex-Curved Air violin virtuoso.
Back in 1978, Darryl Way released Concerto For Electric Violin, an early attempt to synthesise an orchestra. Thankfully, technology has moved on, and in this three-movement work, Way has the best orchestral samples at his disposal. So good are his skilful arrangements that the casual listener would barely know that there wasn’t a 100-piece orchestra in the room. However, he plays all the high violin parts and tests his virtuosity to the limit, so while this is very much a classical piece, with Way’s solo violin prominent, there are more than a few hints at other genres in his melodies, from progressive rock to jazz and, frequently, folk.
