LONG DISTANCE CALLING
LONG DISTANCE CALLING
The Phantom Void EARMUSIC
Sweet dreams aren’t made of this as Berliners thrive in the shadows.
After a break of four years, Berlin post-rockers Long Distance Calling return with what they describe as their shortest, hardest and strongest album ever. While not a concept record per se, the quartet frame the music with spoken passages to establish the album’s core theme of dreaming. It’s not an entirely successful device; the narrator’s voice is so deep and swamped in effects that it’s nigh incomprehensible, crossing over from portentous to something perilously close to a spoof.
