Marcus du Sautoy is Britain’s most famous mathematician. In his brilliant new work, What We Cannot Know, the Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science at the University of Oxford tackles some of the biggest scientific questions of all: Is the universe infinite? Do we know what happened before the Big Bang? Where is human consciousness located in the brain? And are there more undiscovered particles out there, beyond the Higgs boson? Known for his passionate yet clear communication of complex ideas, Du Sautoy also asks whether science can possibly discover everything there is to know.
