DANZA&DANZA International

November/December We open the November/December issue with Sangeun Lee, Lead Principal of the English National Ballet. Maggie Foyer, our contributor from London, wrote: “Her very long slender limbs and finely honed technique are a perfect match for the choreographies of William Forsythe and David Dawson in which she excels. These gifts, plus her huge emotional reach also made her an ideal choice for Derek Deane’s wide screen Swan Lake in-the-round”. But Sangeun Lee is so much more, as she reveals to us in the interview that opens this issue. On the national scene, it is the artistic duo Sasha Riva & Simone Repele, former dancers in Hamburg and Geneva, today sought-after international choreographers, who are set occupy Italian stages with a number of premieres in the coming months, including the world premiere of Peter Pan for the Teatro Massimo Ballet in Palermo and a new work, "Dear Son", for their own company. Somewhere between circus and contemporary dance lies the interesting path traced by Piergiorgio Milano, a thoughtful artist who divides his time between Belgium and Italy, now associated artist with Orbita, the National Production Centre in Rome. The great American choreographer Jerome Robbins, whose works are not generally widely performed by Italian ballet companies, has experienced something of a revival this year with La Scala recently adding two new titles for its repertoire. We discuss the artist in our in-depth look at culture. If you are looking for Christmas gift ideas, Matthew Brookes' new book of photography is a good choice, with its wonderful shots of dance and landscapes. We caught up with him to talk about his latest project and book. You will also find reviews from Italian festivals, a look at international premieres and the most interesting events in the coming months. You will find there is plenty to discover as you turn the pages of this interesting issue.
