Rejecting Oblivion is what it would sound like if black and death metal, metalcore and noise rock all wanted to kill you. BALTTW’s fourth album quickly announces itself as a diversely violent motherfucker, casting earsplitting guitar harmonies against a barrage of snare drums. Singer Stace Fifield bludgeons with Hatebreedish barks, separated by the screeching of stringed instruments getting tortured. Segues of postmetal ambience descend during Cicada and Caustic Burns, but they crescendo with some of the most muscular riffs of the year so far. Not since Conjurer debuted has a band used so many different extreme genres to beat the shit out of your speakers. ■■■■■■■■■■
