Following World Wetland’s Day on Saturday February 2, Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) is urging people to visit one of Scotland’s amazing wetland sites, to take in the dramatic lochs, peatlands and riverbanks, and the wildlife that lives there; and learn more about these vital areas, and why it’s crucial the wetlands stay wet.
There are many types of wetlands in Scotland, including marshes, fens, reed beds, flushes and swamps – in short, a wetland is an area of land that is saturated with water, whether year-round or seasonally. So everyone in Scotland is bound to find a wetland nearby, especially at this time of year.
