Commodore’s attempt to repackage the Amiga hardware in console form wasn’t a bad idea – the system was a fine gaming platform, and the company was facing an uncertain future in the home computer market. But some things had to be done to improve the system’s viability in the console space, and one of them was addressing the control situation. For years, Amiga owners had been expected to make use of joysticks with just one or two buttons, which just wasn’t enough for the latest arcade conversions. To that end, Commodore created a new pad for the CD32, with a digital directional pad, four face buttons and two shoulder buttons. An upwardcurving body completed the futuristic look.
