Discover why Darran is obsessed with Nintendo’s Switch
If you needed further proof of the popularity of Nintendo’s latest console consider our Greatest Games Systems feature from issue 177. Nintendo’s console was already being championed by readers as the 30th greatest machine of all time and it had only been on sale for about ten months (by comparison its predecessor, the Wii U, didn’t even place).
The Switch certainly isn’t perfect (its third-party games can often suffer from performance issues compared to the Xbox and PS4 versions) but there’s certainly a lot to be said for its sheer versatility and adaptability (it’s equally at home in your hands or under your TV). That adaptability, both in how it can be used and the sheer range of games that’s available for it, has ensured Nintendo’s console currently gets more play than anything else I own.
Whenever I’ve purchased a console in the past, I’ve always made my decision not based on publisher loyalty, but on whether the system had games I wanted to play. That’s why I chose a Lynx over a Game Boy, a Master System over a NES and Sega’s Saturn over Sony’s PlayStation. The Switch is no different, and while many of the games I own are also available on other consoles, Nintendo’s personal output convinced me to take the plunge.
