SAM’S JOURNEY
The
Sizzler-rated
C64
original
has
finally
jumped
to
the
NES
(see
RG230’s
feature).
Drawn by a huge claw into another land, Sam must collect diamonds and find the key to open the exit door in each area. The map allows Sam to save progress, while pausing or dying means restarting from the nearest flag or entrance. To help Sam explore and find all the hidden items, he can wear numerous costumes: Pirate Sam wields a sword, Ninja Sam can climb walls and Spaceman Sam’s jetpack boosts him higher. There are many more to find as well, adding to the fun. Switches and hidden tunnels lead to more secrets, with three trophies per level (dropped by defeating a particular enemy) to be found. Finally, reaching the exit reveals the percentage of the level completed (based on diamonds, coins and trophies).

NOBODY SHOULD OVERLOOK THE IMPORTANCE OF AUDIO IN THE MARIO SERIES AS IT’S ASSOCIATED WITH SOME OF THE MOST MEMORABLE GAME AUDIO OF ALL TIME, FROM UNFORGETTABLE UTTERANCES TO MUSIC THAT LINGERS IN YOUR BRAIN LONG AFTER THE CONSOLE IS TURNED OFF
VITAL VERSATILITY
MARIO’S PLATFORM GAMES ARE THE CORE OF THE SERIES, BUT THE STAR HAS DONE EVERYTHING FROM RACING HIS RIVALS TO THROWING FISTS WITH ICONS LIKE SONIC AND PAC-MAN. THAT ADAPTABILITY HAS HELPED TO ENSURE THAT THE PLUMBER’S NEXT OUTING IS NEVER FAR AWAY
