Back in 1997, it seemed as though a gap had opened up in the handheld market. Sega had discontinued the Game Gear, and Nintendo’s Game Boy was eight years old – ancient, in console terms. Enter Tiger Electronics, the tenured purveyor of dedicated handheld LCD games, with a handheld that looked slightly more like a PDA, complete with a touchscreen. The Game.com branding referenced the console’s ability to connect to the internet with a dedicated cartridge and modem, a feature unique among handheld consoles of the time.
