“Leave the girl, it’s the man I want!”
A special Pride issue of SFX? Times really have changed since I picked up the first issue back in 1995. And that’s just one of the many reasons why I felt that a) it was finally time to do it and b) it was important. I wanted to showcase the talent and contributions of the many LGBTQ+ creators around the world who work endlessly to not only bring entertainment to our brains but to raise awareness and visibility for other people in the community – and also to change perceptions and, in their own way, the world, slowly but surely, by challenging prejudices and making things better for future generations. Of course, there’s bazillions of wonderful LGBTQ+ people out there who, in their own way, contribute to the things that SFX covers and we only had time and space to speak to a handful of them – I’m 100% certain there will be many more to come.It’s my daily experience, and I know it’s also the daily experience of many of our readers, who I’m sure will appreciate why I’m waving the flag this month.
