The Avengers, X-Men and Eternals go to war in Marvel crossover Judgment Day
Along with tie-in issues of Immortal X-Men, Gillen is also scripting Eternals-centred spin-off Death To The Mutants.
Avengers X-Men Eternals: Judgment Day issue one is out on 6 July.
AFTER HIS RUNS ON Immortal X-Men and Eternals, Kieron Gillen is pitting the long-living extraterrestrials against the Merry Mutants in Avengers X-Men Eternals: Judgment Day – with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes stuck in the middle.
“I was already working on threads between the two books, which was more of a shadow war – like psychic ghost operations – between the two peoples,” says Gillen, who is joined by artist Valerio Schiti. “Marvel asked about the possibility of an event, and I realised it could be a lot more overt, and a really interesting inciting incident for a much bigger, brutal, philosophical summer blockbuster. So I’ve been aggressive in placing the event as something that comes from the existing stories in all three lines, including my Eternals climax, the Hellfire Gala – and you can even trace the roots of this story all the way back to Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness’s Avengers issue one in 2008.”
