→ “Everything we thought we knew about the universe has just gone out the window!” says Halle Berry’s NASA queenpin with an admirably straight face in Moonfall, less of a new film from Roland Emmerich than a bargain-bin compilation of the director’s greatest hits.
From Independence Day to The Day After Tomorrow to 2009’s 2012, this Teutonic titan has spent the last three decades subjecting Mother Earth to a veritable Götterdämmerung of extraterrestrial, climatological and existential threats. In Moonfall, though, he’s come up with a world-leveller to trump them all: a menace so devastating it makes the comet in Don’t Look Up, the asteroid in Armageddon and the meteor in Meteor seem like insects hitting a windscreen.
