THE MAN BEHiND THE BAT
ROBERT PATTINSONIS THE BATMAN – BUT EVEN HE CAN’T REALLY BELIEVE IT
Did you do anything specific to make this Batman different?
It’s difficult. There’ve been, I think, 10 or so movies of Batman and it’s not like there’s been 10 duds. There’s been 10 really good interpretations of it [laughs]. I was somewhat conscious, or maybe I was just nervous going into it, going, “Oh, I can’t go down the same route.” Because they’re so specific, all the different interpretations. Also, it’s quite fun to try and find a gap which you feel hasn’t been done. But it’s in the script… it’s a very different tone to the other movies, so it came naturally.
Are you personally a fan of Batman?
Yeah, I am. I’ve seen every one of the Batman movies in the theatre. It’s not an original thing to say, but like every little boy – and I’m sure lots of little girls as well – they get kind of obsessed with Batman and think that they’re Batman. It’s really the only long-running series where every single one of the movies, whenever they would come out, I think I’ve seen every single one opening weekend.
