For the growing number of comic book movie fans with quipping-superhero fatigue there’s good news: Morbius is light on quips. The bad news is that that’s pretty much the only good news. In every other way this Marvel vampire flick seems to have been precision-engineered to give reviewers a chance to dust down every “Toothless!” and “Bloody awful” snipe going. We’re happy to oblige: it sucks.
Morbius is Marvel’s “living vampire”, introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man issue 101 in 1971 as an adversary for the webslinger, following changes to the US Comics Code that allowed for the inclusion of more horror characters. He went on to star in his own, gothic horror-steeped strips in various anthology titles, becoming more of a sympathetic anti-hero than a villain.
