We could probably let this one go with “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre meets Boogie Nights”.
Tobe Hooper’s film is higher in the mix of Ti West’s two-for-one ’70s homage: as a van full of urbanites pull up at a remote house in Texas, after a gas station stop, it feels like we’re in for a straight replay. Even the wall of cicada chirping triggers déjà vu.
