This is no bulbous USB stick. It’s a bulbous HDMI stick, from a time when most tellies were dumb, streaming services were gaining in popularity, and smart folks were figuring out how to get what they wanted to watch onto the screen they wanted to watch it on. Google’s plan was to give you that in a dirt-cheap dongle that was also dead simple, with barely any interface of its own. All you had to do was fire video across from a phone or a laptop.
