FIRST TEST SONY WF-1000XM5
The Sony way is up
The Japanese giant has managed to raise the bar for noise-cancelling wireless earphones four times on the trot now. Can the WF-1000XM5s make it five?

Seriously, Sony – if you keep finding new ways to shrink your earphones, we’ll eventually need a microscope to see ’em.
The WF-1000XM5 in-ears are significantly smaller than the outgoing XM4s, which were themselves a whole lot more compact – and indeed comfortable to wear – than their predecessors. And yet Sony has still squeezed even larger drivers inside each earbud, along with the firm’s best active noise-cancelling yet. The feature list is as extensive as ever, and they’re priced to compete with Bose’s best.
