ISSUE 4 (SPRING 2016)
With Salute just around the corner, John Treadaway of the South London Warlords took a deep dive into the history of the show. It had previously been held at Olympia, before moving to ExCeL (see page 28 for this year’s wander around that venue), although that wasn’t its original starting point. You’d have been above a pub called the Surrey Tavern at Salute 1! Another big show was also getting a preview, as we looked ahead to UK Games Expo. Having grown significantly since 2007, it was the first time it was being held inside the Birmingham NEC. Of the smaller companies we spoke to, Decking Awesome Games, Dogeared Games, Triple Ace Games and Yay Games all still have a digital presence; NKSN Games merged with publisher Board&Dice and took its name; while Fat Chance Games and Grublin Games are sadly no more. Meanwhile, in 10 of the Best, Twilight Struggle topped our chart of the best two-player games. Sky Team (see page 65) would likely oust it from that top spot today.
