Whether players should hop right over Pondscape is the question under discussion here. Terrible puns aside, the Capstone Games title faces tough competition from a variety of other tableau-building, card-drafting rivals. To stand out in the market and prove itself to be a worthwhile addition to the collection, Pondscape has to really achieve two things, in my mind. First, it must do something new with its concept, offering a premise that is atmospheric enough to draw players in. Second, it must feature a unique mechanic that can’t be compared to any of its rivals.
