FROM THE STRAD MARCH 1915 VOL.25 NO.299
The somewhat irascible Belgian cellist Ernest de Munck, who passed away on 19 January 1915, is remembered by his student Dora Petherick
De Munck had a strong vein of humour in him, and an irresistible charm of manner which endeared him to all who met him. Yet, when occasion required, his blue eyes would flash, and his tongue denounce the offending person in such scathing tones that the pupil (or whoever it was) would tremble in his shoes. But de Munck was extremely just and upright, and usually if the pupil did not behave properly, he would simply look at him, with such a great sorrow in his eyes, that it seemed impossible to the pupil he should do anything else but just try his very best to please his master.
