Big Carp Magazine  |  Big Carp 217
The Connoisseur’s Collection
I’ve been planning this particular issue for several months, a Good Looking Carp Special showcasing the best looking carp in Britain. These ‘themed’ magazines have become very popular this year… ‘The Bait Issue’, ‘The Monster Carp Special’, ‘Off the Beaten Track’… all very different but with certain key elements linking them all, i.e. big, dark, scaly beasts, off the radar proper carpers, keep it real venues and definitely no product orientated articles i.e. adverts pretending to be articles. I have a passion for the type of carp that I have just spoken about, these big, old history fish, scaly warriors and black backed beasts so as you can imagine this issue was a real pleasure putting together.
Then as if by magic, just as I was looking for a lead article my good old mate Dave Lane caught the Burghfield Common bang on cue. The Burghfield common epitomises everything that a classic English common should be like, not only is it a big, dark, scaly beauty, but it is almost the size of a railway sleeper too. Surely it rates as one of, if not THE best-looking carp in the country.
Dave has stepped up to the mark in fine style as he takes yet another Big Carp cover this month. It’s been a while, but Dave has had some great BC covers in the past – Horton and Conningbrook being my favourites, but this month’s is my favourite of ALL time.
