CrystalDiskMark tests the read and write speeds of hard drives, SSDs and external drives, so you can check if they’re becoming slower over time. It performs four tests to verify how fast your drive can read and write both sequential and random data. The latest version reduces the default number of times these four tests are carried out, from five to three. This will save you time while still providing accurate results, but you can increase it to nine if you prefer. CrystalDiskMark has also added a setting for testing the flash memory in SSDs, USB sticks and SD cards. Click the Settings menu and choose Flash Memory (see screenshot) to adjust its tests accordingly. Although it’s a great program, CrystalDiskMark has a confusing website, so we recommend downloading it from www.snipca.com/55263 instead.
