Microsoft is working on a tool that makes it easier to move your files and data from a Windows 10 computer to a new one running Windows 11, ahead of support for 10 ending in October.
The feature, called MigrationApp, is part of the Backup tool, which Microsoft launched in 2023 for backing up files to OneDrive.
WHAT WE THINK
With Windows 10’s market share actually increasing, Microsoft will be desperate for this tool to be a hit. But it’ll be too basic for many users, who won’t want to leave their settings, software and profiles behind when they upgrade. However, we’ll explain how to use it when it launches, along with all your other options over the next few months, including how to keep running Windows 10 reasonably safely – albeit with limitations.
