Apple is adding its Preview app to iPads (see screenshot right), letting you open, edit and write on PDFs on your iPad.
This gives you more advanced PDF-editing options on top of those that already exist in the Files app, and means you may not need to install third-party apps like Adobe Acrobat Reader.
It’s part of iPadOS 26, which is expected to arrive in September. Currently, the Preview app is available only in macOS – Apple’s operating system for Macs.
Editing PDFs will be done by touch or by using Apple’s Pencil stylus, and you’ll be able to open PDFs and images in your Files folder from within Preview. Preview will also automatically fill in PDF forms on the iPad.
It’s one of several new features in iPadOS 26, including “windowing” which lets you resize web pages and apps by pressing and holding a ‘grab’ handle at the bottom right then moving it on screen.
