Online parish clerks (OPCs) are volunteers who collect, transcribe and publish parish records online that are free to search. Many counties have their own OPC websites, packed with data you won’t find on the big commercial genealogy sites. If you’re tracing your roots, these are goldmines hiding in plain sight.
Find an OPC site for your area
To see if there’s an OPC project for your county or parish, start with the list on UK BMD (www.snipca.com/55175). You’ll also find plenty of free transcripts outside the OPC network by searching GENUKI (www.genuki.org.uk).
