Are Hard Drives Set to Return From the Dead?
YES, I KNOW THEY’RE NOT REALLY DEAD. HDDs offer an excellent source of affordable storage. But with SATA SSDs (and even M.2 drives) becoming cheaper and providing comically faster speeds, it’s not hard to see why the humble 3.5-inch hard drive has fallen out of favor for many builders.

SSDs, particularly M.2 drives, open up new avenues when it comes to the physical act of building a PC, too. Many motherboards have slots for two (or more) M.2-2280 SSDs, taking up far less space than a pair of chunky HDDs. Ultra-compact builds benefit hugely from smaller drives that don’t require SATA cables running around the case.
