An asthma attack feels different to being out of puff on a run
Asthma attacks don’t happen often in people who take their asthma medication regularly and attend asthma checks to make sure the treatment is appropriate.
An attack can be sudden or it can come on over a few days. Occasionally, asthma attacks come out of the blue but they are more likely if you’re having frequent symptoms from your asthma indicating that it isn’t under control. “Coughing, wheezing and breathlessness are all important signs that could indicate poorly controlled asthma,” warns Dr Helm. “You should have an asthma self-management plan from your doctor or practice nurse which helps you spot whether you have good asthma control or not and it’s important to have good control before you run regularly.”
